Yay! The Site is Back! Now What?

I know that a lot of people have really missed the site in the month or so it's been down. I know I have several thousand words to post myself. The mods have missed you too. Seriously, with no queue, we don't know who to send yes and no letters to. (Landlords don't like it when you point out that they used the wrong homophone in their Christmas letter.) But I'm sure you're all eager to get posting, so I'll try to keep this brief, or as brief as someone who tends to write terribly long novels can make it.

1. Featured Stories. As DG mentioned on the forums, by mod consensus, or the consensus of the mods she could reach immediately at the time, there are no featured stories in this announcement. Suggestions for the theme "Best of 2011" can be submitted on the forums until the end of January and will be featured in February's announcments. The links are in the post below this one, but in case you don't feel like scrolling, the submission thread is here.

2. Queue Delays As some of you might have guessed, it could take a bit longer than normal to get things through the queue right now. This is because the site has been down for about a month, including a few major holidays, and that means that a lot of people probably have massive amounts of things to post. (As always, the one chapter at a time rule applies to unvalidated authors.) Please be patient. The queue is bound to get very long, and it could take up to about a month to return to its normal length.

3. Valentine Fic Trade. I am running a Valentine fic trade. The signup thread is here. I'm leaving it up to the majority of participants as to whether this will be an anon round or an open round.

Let the chapterdumping begin! (Seriously, what else is everybody going to do while Cheezburger Network and Wikipedia are blacked out to protest PIPA/SOPA?)

Edit by Kerrigan Sheehan: A couple of users have reported bugs since the site came back online, so there are a couple additions to the announcements. Please read them.

4. Categories. A few categories were reported as showing up in the archive but not in the dropdown list. If you run across a category that doesn't show up in the dropdown, let a mod know about it or post it in the forums in the category request thread or bug report thread so it can be fixed. Thank you, DestinedXDreams, for reporting this.

5. Story Ratings. It seems that a small number of stories have had their ratings reverted to "All" recently. Please check through the list of stories on your profile and fix any ratings that need fixing. If you find something in the archive that seems to be rated "All" when it shouldn't be, either contact the author directly and ask them to fix it or contact a mod so we can do this for them. Thank you, Zesty, for bringing this to my attention.

Yay! It's back! Thank you so much for your hard work returning the site back to us. I'm also super excited for another fic trade! Unfortunately, I have no chapter dumping to do because I am huge lame face that hasn't written anything outside her Nano in months.

Sally did all the hard work. The mods just sat around and accumulated words like everyone else and tried to send no letters to inappropriate recipients.

I personally put my stuff on more than five sites so it can still be accessed when the site is down, but you should also keep your own backups. Other sites can go down as well.

-Share the love. Post on as many sites as will host it.
-Get a thumb drive. Text documents don't take up much room, so you really only need the smallest size, and they're like $5-$10 at Wal-Mart.
-Use Dropbox or another online backup service.
-Get an external hard drive if you can afford one.
-Burn a CD.
-Print a copy and keep it in a lock box if you have to.
-Better yet, print two and keep them in different places.

When a site goes down, there's no guarantee that it will come back, and there's definitely no guarantee that your data will be saved.

I checked every day too, but DG still got to tell me because I wasn't going to check until I finished with other business.

Is it alright if I do some weird squiggly sort of dance and then shout this out to the world. I literally checked back every day for like three weeks to see if Luna was back up. I have no life. That's apparent from how much I missed Luna!

I just almost fainted from happiness when I saw that Luna's back up. I'm so, so glad it's back! I missed the community, and I could barely even find anything to do with my time while Luna wasn't accessible. Eeek! I'm so happy! :3 ♥

The queue was fairly long before the site went down, since it went down when most of the mods were headed into midterms/finals. There are currently about 225 stories in it, but it's fluctuating quite a bit. Usually, it averages about 100.

We seem to be doing better getting the new stuff out than clearing up the pile that was there before, though. We never go in order...

MissingNin - We're doing a lot better with the new ones than we have been with the ones that have been in there a while. Don't worry about submitting it now vs. later. It may take a few extra days to get through, but we mostly put up the warning so people don't ask right away if something has been seen.

The queue has been shrinking today. It was at 250 when I woke up, and, despite the incoming story volume, is between 210 and 220 now.

Really, guys, it's no problem for you to upload. You just might have to wait a tiny bit longer than usual for us to get to your story. We just don't want a million emails asking us if we've seen something yet because we're human too, and humans can only read and type so fast.

Sweet! So glad to see the site back up! I've thoroughly raped tumblr, since I haven't been able to catch up on my favorite authors lol. And I, too, must confess that I've been a royal loser and have not written any fanfiction to post, only my original work, which won't be getting submitted any time soon. Le sigh, anyway, once again, so happy to see Luna back up on it's feet, and good luck to the mods (you'll need it, sifting through the queue)! And, as always, a big thank you to Sally! You're a peach~!

Oh, and before it escapes me! Another great site to visit if Luna ever has downtime (besides tumblr, of course!) is the recent Jamlyfics[dot]com. A lot of Luna authors are there already, and the quality of writing is not unlike Luna's. It's a pretty good alternative, if anyone is ever interested :]
