What….? Shay blinked several times and looked around in wonder. She had no idea where she was, and no recollection of getting there.

She was in the thick of a forest with odd wooden planks nailed to every tree. Some of them had words written on them. “Orange!” one declared. “This way! No, wait…” read another. The other planks were simply an ominous white board.

She wore a blue dress that showed off an uncomfortable amount of leg, and a white apron over it. A black ribbon needlessly held back her pixie cut brown hair. On her feet were a pair of tight black shoes that were horrible to walk in. She kicked them off, reasoning that nothing in the ground could be worse for her than those shoes. She strolled through the trees, skipping over roots easily.
Though she was lost (and evidently suffering from amnesia), she felt no distress. The forest was quiet and peaceful, and there was the faintest sound of music in the distance.

Shay grinned with this realization. Music…? She began walking again, this time with purpose, and much quicker.

She burst through the trees enthusiastically to see that she had come upon a large clearing. There was a quaint Victorian house, surrounded by a white picket fence that seemed rather superfluous, considering it was encased in the trees.

On the lawn in front of the house was an extremely long table, littered with teapots and teacups. Shay peered at it curiously, startled to realize there were only five people seated there.

That was where the music was coming from, too. There was an old record player, somehow playing a vinyl of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven that had been warped. Two of the people at the table were singing along. As Shay got closer, she could see that one was a girl with long blonde hair. She wore a dress made of black duct tape that was covered with red duct tape hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. She sang loudly, with abandon, in a way that distinctly reminded Shay of Algernon from The Importance of Being Earnest.

Shay giggled quietly and opened the useless gate, stepping into the yard curiously.

The girl turned to her and grinned widely. “Hey Shay!”

Shay blinked in surprise. “Ryn?”

“Yeah!” the girl answered eagerly, “I’ve been waiting for you to show up.”

“Where am I…?” Shay asked, the appropriate concern finally setting in.

Ryn laughed. “Shay, you of all people should know the answer to this one.”

Shay’s brow furrowed, and she looked around, searching desperately for clues to where on God’s green earth she was. At first, all she saw clearly was Ryn. Then, slowly, the other details started to come into focus.

The boy who sat in the chair next to her also sang along, but in a quieter, haunting way. Shay realized with a start that it was his voice that had summoned her to this place. It was as if he was reaching into her soul and tugging her along by it. He was tall, and well-built, with white hair and blue eyes. He wore white rabbit ears, and Shay had to smile at the way they swayed with every movement of his head. He looked like a crushed man, but as he turned to look at Shay, a thin smile graced his gorgeous face.

She blushed. Is this one of those places where all the guys are pretty?

She glanced at the other three men silently. One was of dark complexion, with rumpled dark brown hair, tiny mouse ears, and closed eyes. He was asleep. The next boy was a blonde, with glasses that shielded his violet eyes that stared into his teacup fixedly. He was blushing madly, and he wore long silky rabbit ears. The final boy was the tallest of them all. He was also wearing glasses. His eyes were vivid blue, and she could not see his hair color for the huge green top hat he wore on his head. All three were abnormally attractive.

Shay twitched. Yup. One of those places. She abruptly recalled how much skin her dress showed. With a sigh, she plopped into one of the several empty chairs, trying to tug down the skirt without flashing any of the males at the table.

Ryn laughed. “Shay, do you remember how you got here?”

Shay frowned and turned to her, reaching out to grasp a cup full of hot tea. “What is this, Inception?”

Ryn stuck her tongue out. “No, legit. Do you remember how you got here?”

Shay closed her eyes and focused, “The only thing I know is that I came from a site called ‘Quizilla’.” Her eyes shot open wide. “Oh! Is this a dream?”

Ryn facepalmed and shook her head. “No, Shay. That was the dream.”

Shay blinked and tilted her head. “Then…what is this?”

“This is Wonderland.”
